Hope Springs has seen a decent showing on its opening day. It earned a respectable $2.3M, just behind The Dark Knight Rises which earned $3.7M.

The film opened at 2,361 theaters and it scored a per-theater average of $959.00, the second highest for any film on August 8, eclipsed by another Streep release, To the Arctic.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film will play between $15M – $16M total for its opening week. The Closing Ceremonies of the Summer Olympics might hamper sales but studio execs are confident that the film is strong enough to sustain.
